Leaping into Action

Teachers rise for climate justice

A Social Justice Conference for BC, WAshington, and ORegon teachers

Saturday, February 29, 2020

12:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Kwantlen park secondary
(10441 132 Street, surrey bc)

Thanks for attending!
We are amazed at our luck - Feb 29th was just before the Covid 19 pandemic hit this region, and as far as we know there were no infections as a result of our gathering! Thanks to all who attended and presented.

The climate crisis can be overwhelming given its complexity and seriousness. In the face of this existential threat, it’s no wonder that many people choose to shut down when the topic arises. For teachers, however, denial is not an option.  In our classrooms, we have students in front of us who need to know how to prepare for the alarming future in front of us all. They need to know what to prioritize as they face a future of unprecedented changes.
What do we teach when the world is burning?
Kids are rising up across the world, striking on school days to raise awareness and demand action.
How do we respond?
Our opening plenary featured a panel of teen activists from the Cascadia region who are developing strategies and leading in each of their communities.
After the panel we broke into workshop sessions. The line up this year was amazing. View the list of workshops by clicking the button below!
