Necessity: Oil, Water and Climate Resistance

This session includes a screening of the one-hour documentary Necessity: Oil, Water, and Climate Resistance, about the fight in Minnesota against the expansion of pipelines carrying toxic tar sands oil through North America, and about indigenous activists and non-indigenous allies making use of the necessity defense to make a moral and legal case for acts of civil disobedience. The film making team is currently exploring the possibility of follow-up episodes and developing an educators’ guide, and will be seeking feedback on using the film in classrooms. Jasmine Eppelsheimer is a mental health worker in Portland, Oregon and works with individuals to maintain healthy lives. She completed a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy with an emphasis in global ethics, and has the privilege to also work as an assistant producer for the film Necessity: Oil, Water and Climate Resistance.

WRITE AN IMAGINARY COLLEAGUE TO TELL THEM WHAT THEY CAN DO TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. WRITE TO YOURSELF IN 2030.
